When I 1st visited Sweden at the tender age of 9, I wholly fell in enjoy with my Swedish friends’ summer months cottage. It was all the things you’d associate with the Swedish summer: a picturesque red and white cottage surrounded by woodland, lakes and the sweet scent of roses. Oh, and possibly the odd mosquito! When I stumbled across Alex and Erika’s place property on the internet yesterday, it took me straight back again to that summer time! Affectionately recognized as Gubbetorp
, Alex and Erika’s croft is positioned in the stunning Östergötland countryside and has been lovingly restored a single place at a time. The pair share a passion for antiques, vintage finds and up cycling all of which incorporate to the charm of the place. Outside loo just before
It can be not that unheard of for Swedish cottages to have an outside bathroom with no working h2o. I recently stayed at Helen’s attractive put which was the identical! It took me back to the days I put in Grandmother’s property. Granny Ruth experienced an outside and indoor loo. We under no circumstances employed the out
side one particular as it was generally whole of spiders!
But the kinds I have experienced in Sweden are so considerably fresher – specially following a make-over!
Out of doors loo
Erika and Alex have absolutely spruced up their outdoor bathroom – incorporating wood panelling which has been painted in the exact same hue as the cottage inside.
They’ve also additional house comforts these kinds of as a hand towel, magazines, new wildflowers and probably most importantly – a classic water tank for washing palms.
The standout piece however, has to be the magnificent antique dresser – it provides such a homely touch!

Their backyard garden is simply magical – specially in summertime. It has me dreaming of midsummer (which is only 8 months absent!) and long summer time times alfresco!
