The Challenge: Modern Rustic Lake House 

From the pantry to the patio, every inch of the lake house needed a coordinated interior design. Although nearly finished, some aspects also needed finalization. The doors, staircase, and deck are among the most pressing. Fortunately, it was all doable. But first, the interior designer had to: 

• Expand the deck on the second floor
• Update doors and windows to feel lighter
• Ensure laundry and mudroom has high countertops and benches to allow for easy use and storage of tall boots
• Use a cohesive color scheme for the entire lake house interior design
• Include the same tile and wood accents in the powder room and bathroom design

Lake House Interior Inspiration

The client was thorough in ensuring the designers knew what they wanted for their modern rustic lake house. In fact, they put together a presentation indicating their likes, needs, and room challenges. It was clear the client wanted a modern rustic interior with a touch of contemporary farmhouse design. 

They loved shiplap walls, loads
of wood features, and a slight industrial element in accents. Additionally, blue tiles also feature throughout – especially for bathrooms. But the most crucial factor was the modern rustic interiors needed to be cohesive – from the kids’ room interior design to the patio. 

Modern Rustic Interior Design & Moodboard

To get started, the client completed a quick style questionnaire and consultation. From here, the Decorilla team could pinpoint her needs and select talented designers best for the project. As it was on a grand scale, two top-tier interior designers submitted proposals for the client’s lake house interior design. And in the end, the modern rustic interior concept by Selma A. fitted the client’s vision best.  

Selma’s comprehensive proposal consisted of a detailed moodboard per room. This meant the client had a thorough idea of how the final design would come together. Selma chose uniform wood finishes in all the bathrooms, with the bedrooms featuring similar accents, contemporary lighting, and modern rustic home décor. 

Lake House Interior Design Reveal

The big reveal comes on a grand scale. Here we explore the bedrooms, bathrooms, and add-on spaces executed with precision. The full project also includes living areas, a den, a gym, outdoor decks, and a kitchen. All in all, the complete modern rustic interior design makes an altogether unforgettable lake house. 

Lake House Master Bedroom Interior

The master suite is a pillar of rustic, cozy minimalism. Modern rustic home décor is minimal here, but the room still has a comfy and embracing air. Natural materials, in wood furniture and the wool rug, give a tactile feel, while crisp white linen and a sleek sofa add refinement.

ite the king-sized bed and nightstands are window walls and an intimate patio. It is the perfect segue from the natural-feeling interior to the outdoors. 

Contemporary Rustic Bunk Room

The kids’ bunk room is certainly a fun place for a sleepover. Eight bunk beds flank a durable gray rug at the center of the room. In addition, two built-in benches give children ample space to play, socialize, and relax. 

The blue-gray hue of the furniture continues throughout the house. Here, it’s paired with a lively, bold red for a bright and youthful look. Each bed has a set of curtains for privacy as well as scatter pillows to make it extra cozy. 

Modern Rustic Bathroom Interior Design

Each bathroom has a similar base: light, golden wood, white countertops, modern sconces, and blue feature tiles. As a result, the interior tells a complete story. It’s a nature-lover’s paradise with soft and calming hues and huge windows showing off the views.  

The lake house bathroom interiors are very similar, yet each is individual and aesthetically pleasing. The contrast of wood, blue and black against white subway tile and walls make visually striking spaces. 

Finally, the kids’ bathroom matches the bunk room scheme. Red accents a neutral color scheme and black and white feature floor. Here twin showers and toilets save space as well as bring practicality for big family get-togethers. 

Spacious Mudroom 

For such a spacious house, the mudroom needs to be equally roomy. And this one ticks all boxes. It comes with high benches to allow tall boot storage. Furthermore, there are plenty of coat racks, shelving, and cabinets, in addition to the perfect station for washing, folding, and drying laundry. As a result, the lake house interior can be neat any time of the year. 

Light Laundry Room 

Last but not least, the laundry room rounds off the modern rustic lake house design. Duck-egg blue cupboards line the white walls, while a light grey starburst tile adorns the floor. The lightened color scheme is practical in a room with no windows, as laundry rooms often are. That said, the space is just as uplifting as the rest of the interior.
