Build Diary 48 – Transforming my home office with IKEA!
IKEA – Permit me take you on a journey into my earlier …..
Extra than 20 a long time in the past, I moved to Australia. I was 18, experienced just finished significant college and had achieved my then-boyfriend/now-partner, who was travelling in Argentina. I fell in love and moved to Sydney.
I’d developed up in a loving, economically protected household with an architect father and inside style and design obsessed mother. But transferring to Australia meant staying monetarily unbiased from my parents. We ended up 20 year olds living in a rented unfurnished apartment in a gorgeous location of Sydney. I was working in a café earning $8/hour and going to songs faculty. We had been in like and really pleased, but it’s honest to say we did not have a lot funds.
The suburb we are living in, Bondi Beach, has a culture of inhabitants placing unneeded home furnishings on the sidewalk for others to just take, and so which is how we very sparsely furnish our household. We have a mattress on the flooring, a wooden box that was utilised to transportation the leading of a piano, is our coffee desk, as very well as an inflatable couch (ha!), and a Television. It was really fundamental. The beach front was 5 minutes from our home. We liked our life collectively!
Boyfriend proposes and we are established to get married. Our households fly in for the ceremony and are not at all amazed with our apartment. So we are hauled off to obtain furniture…..
I have very clear reminiscences of that first stop by to IKEA. That monumental, cavernous building, whole of snaking paths, and stuffed with pleasant household furniture and homewares. I was like a child in a candy retailer. I could basically obtain every thing I needed for my condominium in just one shop! It definitely felt like a Cinderella moment!
A couple several hours later, we’re back again at residence, placing with each other all the flat pack goodies from IKEA. Spouse is worthless at this, but my industrial designer sister a lot more than helps make up for it.
Hey presto, we observe our new property surface just before us in a make any difference of hrs! Our super essential apartment is reworked into a genuine residence. I bear in mind feeling that “now I’m basically an grownup!”
So IKEA for me, carries a good deal of favourable thoughts. It signifies some of my metamorphosis from child to grownup! That emotion of seeking all over my condominium, loaded with new furniture and pondering “this is now my home”.
When I heard that IKEA was opening in Bali, I understood I experienced to investigate! I experienced presently shopped on the internet for small kitchen area things from IKEA Jakarta a number of yrs ago when I was desperate for a potato ricer and could not find any in Bali. I was sick of mashing potato for my potato-obsessed daughter with a fork, and just about wept with delight when I saw they experienced it online.
The IKEA keep in Bali is a showroom in which you can see all the items they provide. You select what you want and they ship it to you from Jakarta. Quick peasy!
Coincidently, I had been wondering about my workplace at this time. We experienced lately redone our floors, and alternatively than use the random tables and chairs that I had been employing formerly, I desired to make it a more lovely and productive space.
