Introduction to the Trends Report 2022 – Rated People Blog

For insights on the biggest trends in renovation and home improvement, take a look at the Rated People Home Improvement Trends Report 2022

Welcome to this year’s report – the third annual edition, and we hope this is the biggest and best one yet.

In this year’s report, we look at how we redesigned our homes in 2021, and what effect materials shortages, workforce issues from Covid and Brexit, and unprecedented demand had on tradespeople as well as homeowners.

The 2022 report also explores important topics like diversity in the industry, and asks ‘why aren’t there more tradeswomen in the UK?’

Eco is a big focus too – from the most in-demand eco home improvements to the ones that increase the value of your home the most.

We also pinpoint the places, trades and jobs that will have the most consumer demand in 2022, and reveal the most lucrative ways to increase your home’s value – from tried and tested staples like extensions, to trending hacks and improvements on TikTok and Instagram.

How we develop our insights

To create this year’s report, we analysed 867,000 home improvement jobs posted by homeowners on Rated People. We also spoke to more than 2,000 homeowners across the UK, and drew on the expertise and insights of 626 Rated People tradespeople.
