China releases jailed Taiwanese activist, sends him home

TAIPEI, April 15 (Reuters) – A Taiwanese activist jailed in China returned to Taiwan on Friday after completing a five-calendar year sentence.

Li Ming-che, a community higher education lecturer and activist at a human legal rights non-governmental organisation in Taiwan, disappeared even though going to China in 2017.

Later that 12 months, a Chinese court discovered him guilty of subversion in a demo that his spouse denounced as illegitimate, expressing she had not been allowed to employ the service of attorneys for her partner.
